Forest Plans

A forest plan for each local forest area sets out how we aim to manage the woodlands in our care over the next 30 or more years, be part of shaping the future of our Forests.

What is a Forest Plan?

A Forest Plan is essential to ensure the successful management of all of the Forests and woodlands that we look after. Key parts of the Forest plan are:

  • providing a description of the woods as they are now
  • outlining the main points considered when deciding what is best for the woods.
  • describing how the forest will develop over time.
  • giving specific information about approved tree felling, replanting and regeneration over the next ten years.

Our goals

We have three long-term goals which are integral to achieving our vision and the UK government’s policy objectives for trees, woods and forests.

More trees, more diverse species, growing & thriving.

By 2028 this means 34,000ha of new tree cover to be on track to the Environment Act target of at least 16.5% tree cover in England by mid-century.

Better managed woods & forests that are protected and improving.

We are bringing more woods into sustainable management, which is critical to the government's commitment to protect 30% of land by 2030 while ensuring a sustainable tree resource.

Bigger benefits for nature, climate, people and the economy.

We will work in partnership across sectors to maximise the public benefits that flow from enhancing our natural capital.
